To continue where I left off in Part 1 of this story, after lowering the car and getting it looking quite good, it was time to join the club and hit the shows. My first car show was French Car Show at Donington Park, only half an hour drive from where I live... ...and straight from the show I made the short journey to Tamworth to buy a set of alloys! Was a great day for me and the little pug.
This came with a major problem though, one that is quite funny looking back, but a massive pain in the backside at the time. I fitted the alloys on a friends drive, and he lives on a very steep hill. After fitting them, I drove off his drive, and got stuck across the road...

For as long as I can remember I had a massive fascination for cars and driving, and becoming 17 and legal to drive couldn't come soon enough. I passed my driving test a few months later and was ready to hit the road and become independent. There was only 1 problem...I had a low paid job and had no chance affording the insane insurance prices I was being quoted. To give you an idea of the sort of prices I was being quoted for insurance, I was looking at a very basic first car such as a 10 year old Citroen Saxo 1.1 litre, worth roughly £1000. Nothing special, just to get from A to B and get valuable driving experience. The cheapest quotes I was getting were in the region of £3000, 3 times more than the cars value, and there was no way of getting this down. But then came the biggest surprise of my life. On my 18th birthday I opened a small jewellery box, and inside was a set of Peugeot keys, and hidden on a neighbours drive was a Peugeot 106 1.1 Independence. It wasn't flash and it didn't stand out, but it was my first car, my pride and joy, and the most amazing surprise I could ever of dreamt of after waking up that morning. I was free, and that's when my driving adventure began...
Hi guys, and welcome to my brand new blog; A Driver's Life For Me (ADLFM). Follow me on my various adventures and throughout my projects with regular updates, so keep checking back. This is my first post so I'm going to try and give you a bit of an idea of what to expect, so here goes! A Little Bit About MeMy name is Billy Streeter, I'm 21 and I currently work as a class 1 lorry driver in the United Kingdom. I work for NFT, a large refrigerated transport company based in Alfreton, not too far from my hometown Mansfield. Although I moan about it from time to time, I do like my job and I have really landed on my feet to say its my first job on the lorries. I have previously worked on the buses as a driver, for a company called Trent Barton, and worked there for almost 2 years. I even got my face stuck onto the back of one! (I'm sure there's a joke or 2 in there somewhere...) What To Expect From My BlogI'm not really going to stick to a certain subject constantly in this blog, although the main subjects will be about driving (hence the name) and travelling. It's going to be about anything I find interesting I suppose, either at work or in my leisure time, that I want to share with others.
Expect to see a lot of changes to the blog at first while I work on the best look and set up. I have just set up an Instagram account @ adriverslifeforme and I will post pictures on there from the blog, along with some that may not appear here too. I'd love to hear you, if anyone turns up, and get your views on my various posts in the future, give me some tips or just say hello! Thanks, more to come soon :D |
