To continue where I left off in Part 1 of this story, after lowering the car and getting it looking quite good, it was time to join the club and hit the shows. My first car show was French Car Show at Donington Park, only half an hour drive from where I live... ...and straight from the show I made the short journey to Tamworth to buy a set of alloys! Was a great day for me and the little pug. This came with a major problem though, one that is quite funny looking back, but a massive pain in the backside at the time. I fitted the alloys on a friends drive, and he lives on a very steep hill. After fitting them, I drove off his drive, and got stuck across the road... The rear arch has a lip digging straight into the tyre, and the car was literally dragging the back wheels across the ground. Definitely not good for the tyres! After a bit of lifting and dragging to get it to level ground without damaging it too much, I drove around for a week with steelies on the rear again, which didn't do much for my street cred! Everything I seemed to do it came with problems, but I guess that's the joys of working on cars, especially old, cheap French cars. Once that was dealt with I bought some Angel Halo headlights, albeit some very cheap ones. Even fitting these was a pain, as the front bumper had to come off. So, 4 snapped screws later and some bodging to get the bumper back on again, they were finally fitted. And there we have it, after about a year and a half of owning my Peugeot 106, the head gasket went and it was time to upgrade. I became a bus driver and after a bit of saving up I could afford to get rid and buy a car I had my eye on for a very long time, a Honda Civic Type R EP3.
It was an amazing journey, from not knowing anything about cars to making loads of friends and learning loads about them. I was sad to see it go, but the memories I have for this little beast will last a lifetime! This car also gave me a soft spot for small Peugeot's, which is why I later bought a 205 GTi, but that's another story. I hope you enjoyed reading the journey as much as I did creating it. Thanks, more on it's way soon!
